YCTC provides a full programme of seamanship training developed by the Royal Yachting Association. The centre provides all courses, with the exception of the Ocean course, along with the supporting subjects of First Aid, Marine Radio Operation and Diesel Engine Maintenance.
At YCTC not only do we encourage learning to aid your safety and confidence at sea, we also maintain a "club" atmosphere and encourage continued learning through practical experience.
We hold regular social evenings/lectures and organise UK and Mediterranean sail holidays for our members. YCTC's shorebased courses are organised on a convenient, one evening per week basis for main theory courses and on Saturdays for the supplementary courses.
The Centre believes that shorebased experience must be translated into real practical sailing skills. RYA Certificates can be awarded by (or through) the Centre. Most YCTC practical courses are held on Yorvik Star, a Bavaria Vision 40 foot yacht berthed at Troon in the Clyde Estuary. Launched in 2007, she is a well-equipped cruising yacht. As a training vessel, she is fully RYA coded for instruction and, therefore, equipped to a very high standard, including fire extinguishers, extensive first aid kit, a full inventory of safety gear.
